The Freeport Physicians’ Education Fund was dedicated to the provision of education to health care providers. The fund was run by a group of physicians who provided hospitalist care to Complex Continuing Care, Rehabilitation and Mental Health patients at Freeport. For more than 30 years, the Fund sponsored an annual conference for physicians and other health care providers who care for the elderly, people with disabilities and palliative care patients in Waterloo Region and the surrounding area. We showcased many local specialists as speakers. Proceeds from the conferences were used to pay distinguished keynote speakers and to sponsor Freeport staff to attend the conference. We also supported educational scholarships for staff and physicians who work at Freeport Health Centre as well as supporting the education of health care workers in India and Haiti. Remaining funds will be used to support education in geriatrics, rehabilitation, complex care, palliative care and mental health at Grand River Hospital; support young cancer patients in their journey; and to provide educational programmes to physicians working at the Memory Clinics.
